My Style: Coming of Age

I woke up today and was like WOW. In two short days, I'll be 25. I cannot believe it. I remember so vividly being about 12 years old. So, you can imagine what waking up and realizing you'e going to be 25 feels like. Yet, I'm not sad. I'm actually really excited. I've committed to making the latter half of my twenties absolutely spectacular. I want to try new things, visit new places and build on the amazing relationships that I have in my life. I even want to expand my blog and all of the other aspects of my professional life. I'm truly excited for 25 and I feel like I'm coming into my own. What a relief! :-)

My Style: God & Music

You know, if I could sing every day I totally would. Unfortunately, music (nor blogging) doesn't pay the bills yet. But I love doing it so much that if I never get paid, I'd keep doing it. That's passion, they say.

Today, my church had a huge musical celebration where we musicians were honored. How sweet, right? I was totally grateful. We had to wear special colors and I was super amped when orange was thrown into the mix. I bought this orange blazer earlier in the summer, but didn't really have anywhere to wear it --I have this problem all too often. Church is the biggest event we small town folk have. I'm ok with that, however.

My Style: Quick

Today has been totally hectic, but I didn't want to forget these photos from the weekend. I found these pants in the thrift store last week and totally squealed. It was definitely love at first sight. They are my first pair of printed pants and I couldn't wait to style them. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, but I think I'll live with this until I do. You'll definitely see more of these babies.

My Style: No Secret

People often ask me where I shop or where I find the pieces that I have. Most assume I spend a lot of money for them, but they obviously aren't privy to my bank statements. I'm a teacher and photographer, people. What's my secret? There isn't one. I shop any and everywhere. From thrift stores to boutiques, I use any opportunity to shop. In my opinion, the cost of an item isn't what makes it great. Sure you want quality pieces when it comes to staples, but shirts and accessories can be found anywhere.

What I'm wearing today is from an assortment of brands and I think they all work well together. So, don't be afraid to shop at a place just because it doesn't carry designer clothes. Besides, the labels are usually inside of the clothes anyway so who cares.

My Style: Fusion of Cultures

A girl at my church said of this outfit, "You look like a Spanish Indian!" I was utterly confused. She explained, "Your skirt is real Spanish, but those earrings and shirt remind me of India." I hadn't intentionally fused these two cultures, but hey it worked! I totally love this skirt, by the way. I snagged it at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago for $20. I think I deserve to be on one of those Maxxinista commercials. I'm definitely one of those. Definitely.

Anyway, you'll probably get angry with the amount of long skirts and dresses you'll see on here over the next couple of months. I just fell in love with maxi dresses, so it'll be kind of like that jean jacket phase. Forgive me, already.

Weekends with Whitney: Girlfriends

I'm sure my life looks oh-so-exciting from the looks of this blog, but trust me it has become very hum-drum over the last year. Graduating from college has changed my life from action-packed to barely tolerable some days. I'm the kind of person who hates to do the same thing everyday.

Luckily, I'm not alone. My girlfriends were feeling a little bored this weekend, so we dressed up a bit and headed down the road to the Cheesecake Factory. We had a blast and laughed well into midnight. I love these ladies! Here's to more weekends like these.

My Style: Comeback Kid

What a whirlwind month! I know you guys must have thought I'd abandoned the blog. I haven't. How could I? But the last month has been crazy. I have a brand new nephew, did my first fashion shoot and I've had countless other projects going on. I'm back, however! Just in time for...summer!

Here's an outfit from last Sunday. Found this shirt at TJMaxx and couldn't wait to wear it. The photos were taken really quick because it's raining. Sorry there are so few.

Glad to be back with you guys. I've got some cool things planned for the summer. :-)

My Style: Oh, Mama!

In honor of Mother's Day, the women of my church decided to wear hats. We were all to dress up in our Sunday''s best to celebrate this awesome occasion. In preparation for this day, I scoured every store in my hometown for the perfect hat. No luck. :-(
Then I remembered that I had boxes of hats that I'd gotten from my great-grandmother's house after she passed a few years ago. I instantly got into the mood and wanted to take the look all the way. I totally enjoyed my vintage look & had so much fun honoring my great grandmother in this way! Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day, as well.

Three of Thirty: Split Second Decisions

Today's outfit was born because...well first let me say this: I'm clumsy.

I woke up pretty early to get some things done and I even got dressed. Yay me, right? No. With fifteen minutes left before I had to be at work, I wasted a whole glass of juice on my shirt. I'm brilliant. So, I had like eight minutes to find, iron and put on my new outfit on. Thankfully, I'm doing 30 for 30 or I would have spent 30 minutes staring at my closet.

One of Thirty: FRESH START

I'm super excited about 30 for 30 this time around. Usually, I lose interest in taking pictures after about a week, but I feel like the items I've picked are SO much fun that I wouldn't dare.

Today's outfit just came together. There was no hoopla and that's how I like to get dressed. Of course this outfit didn't have a ton of elements, but it's a start. By day 30 I hope to dazzle you all with my style prowess (or  at least mildly amuse you).

By the way, today was absolutely great. Nothing really happened, but I decided to have a good day and I did! Positive thinking is the best.
