Sometimes you meet people and you instantly love them. Such is the case with me and the young man that is being featured in today's Style Influencer Series. He and I met a few years ago and have been the best of friends ever since. Along with a host of other things, our love for style was one of the things that brought us together. So, I'm proud to introduce you all to My Stylish Friend Kraig Jamaal of Just Jamaal.
Check out this interview I did with Kraig a few weeks ago:
KRAIG JAMAAL
Who is Kraig Jamaal?
I am a free-spirit individual who has learned to take advantage of everyday that I am given. I'm inspired by the people and things around me. I'm very balanced with my career, goals and leisure lifestyle. I've learned very quickly to be driven, demanding and outspoken in the fashion industry. Im very fast paced and sometimes hard to keep up with. I usually go against the grain meaning I hate following crowds and trends so, whats usually IN is usually OUT for me. I love to travel for work or pleasure. When in Atlanta on my free time, you can usually find me in Midtown or Buckhead checking out local boutiques or having a nice glass of wine and conversation with friends over lunch or dinner at some of my favorite restaurants in the city.In 3 words, describe your style...
Diverse, Evolving and Daring How are you involved in the fashion industry?
My career in the fashion industry began in Atlanta after being the Woman's Visual Merchandiser at ZARA of Perimeter. There, I gained many opportunities, built my clienteles and worked with many well known people such as Keyshia Knight-Pullium, Tweet, Fantasia, Nivea, Nicole Ari Parker, Lance Gross, Lil Duval and RL (of NEXT). One GREAT person I met during my time there was Stephanie Grant, the CEO of Dinpuru and from there I was hired as her Creative Director.
What is your dream fashion/style job?
Well, as a Creative Director, I am living part of my dream now. I LOVE using my creativity to come up with concepts and ideas that can bring a collection to life or add that extra umph to put it over the edge. Though I have many dreams to reach. I anticipate growing and expanding the dream I am currently living and I would like to design and head visuals of a boutique of a high end designer one day.
In your opinion, what are the staple items that every stylish man and woman needs? You should have one key piece that is essential, classic and never has an expiration date. One key piece that you can build your whole outfit around. For Men, I would say a classic pair of oxfords. They are timeless and useful to dress up or down. For Women, I say a basic nude or black pump. The simple Christain Louboutins have been a must have piece for the past few seasons and the Red soles just give that POP factor.
Any last words?
MyStylistFriends was a big influence on starting my blog Just Jamaal. I've always loved W. Sherrell's bold style and sexy statement in fashion. I just want everyone to remember to be you and let who you are shine through your style. If it makes you confident and smile then it will defiantly inspire someone else. Peace. See, why I love him? Be sure to check out Just Jamaal for wonderful styling and amazing photography! Kraig Jamaal is definitely a name you want to remember in the industry. I can't wait until he takes over the world!
